Inspired by vintage subway maps (external link) and modern spin-offs (external link), we present this unique guide to Wichita's Webscape.
Links on this map represent the most popular Web destinations of Wichitans. We use an impartial formula to determine the most popular local Web sites, blogs and social networks. We also collect URLs of restaurants, bars, shops, arts & entertainment sites from Wichita and across south-central Kansas.

Map Inclusion: We basically look at the Wichita Web Site Index and take the top sites within each category.
We avoid links to national outfits except for a few regional chains and the Web applications in "Outside Resources."
Nuts and Bolts: This map is simply an old school client-side image map with a little javascript to create the "enhanced tooltip" effect.
Thanks to Craig Erskine(external link) for the excellent qTip technique.
Future Enhancements: We are already working on updates and new versions. Eventually, we will loose the image maps and go with a pure XML/SVG solution... possibly a flash version too. We are also working on a more accessible text-only version.
